The tide is low,
seabed is rocky,
feeling youthful,
somewhat cocky.
The huge rock isle
quickens my soul.
I swim out slowly
to lessen the toll.
Catching my breath,
I bask in the sun,
surrounded now by
boys having fun.
Thoughts drift back
to this same beach,
to days of my youth,
now far from reach.
Sun bleached hair,
body lean and tan,
fantasizing over
becoming a man,
Sketching seascapes,
or writing a poem,
just basking in life
before leaving home.
No going back.
Those were the days:
innocence lost
in a purple haze.
So, boys,
Enjoy your fun.
If only you knew,
what time may bring,
what aging will do.
