His hair once a golden blond,
(In his eyes it still is.)
others see it as white and gray.
His eyes once bright baby blue,
(In his eyes they still are.)
are dulled, the blue fading away.
His skin once supple and tanned,
(In his eyes it still is.)
is thinning, covered with spots.
His mind once sharp as a tack,
(In his eyes it still is.)
has trouble connecting the dots.
His body once muscular and lean,
(In his eyes it still is.)
has become arthritic and frail.
His legs that danced all night long,
(In his eyes they still can.)
barely walk him out to the mail.
He once saw only himself reflected,
(In his eyes he still does.)
catching glimpses now of his dad.
His youthful spirit has never aged,
(Some things are eternal)
“My life’s the best I could’ve had.”
