I bought me this here guitar,
because it looked so good.
It’s a classic shiny six string,
made from natural wood.
It’s got a built-in ‘lectric amp,
so I can really crank it;
strum it sort of quiet like, or
spin around ‘n spank it.
Never got to play it much,
about once or twice a year.
Hard to strum on something,
that was hardly ever here.
(Refrain)
Spent more time in a pawn shop
than it ever got played.
Got me through those hard times
when I wasn’t gettin’ paid.
Always good for forty dollars,
when broker than a joke.
Bought lots of Ramen noodles,
and cheap cigarettes to smoke.
Friends told me I should sell it,
said, “You’ll never learn to play.”
If I had listened to them fools,
I wouldn’t be here today.
We’ve come a long way from
E A B C F ‘n G.
There’s no chord we don’t know,
this here guitar and me.
Yeah, my girl, up and left me,
took my hound dog and my truck.
But I still got this here guitar,
so I don’t give a (Jumps right to the refrain)
(Refrain)
Spent more time in a pawn shop
than it ever got played.
Got me through those hard times
when I wasn’t gettin’ paid.
Always good for forty dollars,
when broker than a joke.
Bought lots of Ramen noodles,
and cheap cigarettes to smoke.
Though this song’s about over,
this story’s far from the end.
No more Ramen noodles for me,
I now have dough to spend.
Been writin’ and singin’ songs,
in clubs both near and far.
Folks been likin’ us so much,
had to get a bigger tip jar!
Yeah,
I’m glad I kept this here guitar,
through bad times and good.
Nothin’ but brighter days ahead -
strummin’ it…
crankin’ it…
spankin’ it…
knock on natural wood!
